The funny thing is that the night before I saw this shit on the news I was honestly thinking about starting a thread talking about the good things going on in Massillon. We bitch a lot about the people in power in this town a lot....AND FOR GOOD REASON, but I thought I would start the thread for a little change of pace.... ....Then I saw this on the news and was so pissed off I thought eff it. Still waiting for an explanation from someone, anyone, who was in a position of power at any point since 1991. Why was this neglected threatening a Massillon landmark?
The Rezzy/dam situation was not being neglected. As was mentioned in one of the newspaper articles, some studies were conducted to determine what course of action to take. When I was in office, we knew something had to take place and we were communicating with the State. There were no letters sent to City giving us an ultimatum, while I was there. Why this was done this time, I don't know.
Frank, I don't for a minute doubt your concern for the city, but when you were in office and, as you say, something had to take place, why was nothing done? Am I missing something?

I agree with buddyh, I know your passion for the city of Massillon, but you say you haven't been mayor since '11, they're saying this has been going on since '91....That's 20 years.
2 possible reasons for this happening in 2017:1) State of Ohio is incompetent (see their Buckeye Lake dam performance for a primer)
I'll go with this one. There had to at least be some informal conversations from ODNR that there was a deadline. And the city needs to blow in a call to the Muskingum Watershed District to see about some financial assistance since Stark County is by far the largest contributor of their stormwater assessment. MWCD is flush with cash from all the fracking.
We were going to do something. However, my term of office ended before we could recommend what course of action to take. Remember, I haven't been mayor since December 31, 2011. I am still perplexed why the State has recently given the City a three week ultimatum.
