I've finally had enough and have to comment on the state of TV coverage for the NFL.

First, I love the NFL. I love football.

Now, I want to say as a football purist sort of fan, I love the CBS team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms.

These guys are good and I like their announcing styles.

I think CBS by far has the best NFL coverage on television.

The pre-game show is pretty good on CBS. From James Brown, who keeps it moving, to the insight of Boomer, Marino, and Cowher....they're pretty good. Shannon Sharpe is a loud mouth, but I'm sure they feel a little bit of that is needed. I agree.

Overall, CBS has the right mix of professionalism, insight, and enthusiasm.

Enthusiasm is a KEY word where I'm going next.

Can someone tell Fox that JOE BUCK FREAKING SUCKS and TROY AIKMAN FREAKING SUCKS?

These two bums RARELY OR NEVER get excited during a telecast.

Joe Buck announces the same lack of enthusiasm for a Budweiser commercial as he does the winning play of the Super Bowl.

Clearly, Joe Buck is living off his father's name.

Troy Aikman adds nothing, either.

Both are boring. Both suck. Both should be demoted or canned.

And, can someone please tell me what the Hell these queer little things are that constantly appear in Fox NFL coverage?

What do these dumb things have to do with football?

This is one of the stupidest things ever for a football telecast. I mean, WHY? What is it? Why is it there? Why do I need to see this stupid-ass thing playing a guitar coming off a commercial break?

Please put all games on CBS and Fox can cover the Pro Rodeo circuit. In fact, Bradshaw probably would be pretty good at covering rodeos with his down home style.

CBS can add Howie Long, who at least tries to have dignity covering football. I do like Howie Long. He's the only bright spot on Fox NFL television coverage.

Your insight to broadcasting is way beyond my views about it, or anyone else's on here, for all that matters.  So it's with timid trepidation that I ever offer a viewpoint following your sobering and entertaining post.

I like to think that the networks do all they can to determine what their 'average' viewer is seeking in a broadcast.  Probably not.  Probably they go with hunches, and personal favorites.  But, at least I want to believe they actually care about what we fans collectively think about such matters, even if it's a difficult thing for them to do.

In the old world of Monday Night Football, my favorite was Frank Gifford.  He was the calm collected one who tried to actually broadcast what was happening on the field.  The other two were always color men, hired to make commentary that seldom was directly involved with the game at hand.  Color men are great.  But sometimes they over-ride the guy who's doing play-by-play decsription of what's going on in the game.

Perhaps a louder, more noisy atmosphere in the booth appeals to more modern young fans.  I still want the focus in that booth to remain on the action unfolding.

But, see, this is all about one's personal likes and dislikes.  I don't know how to resolve the issue -- me thinks they are trying to appeal to everyone by having a large variety of announcers and color people.

The best coverage of a football game is usually on radio.  When you can get a game on radio and TV both -- just turn off the sound on your TV and listen to the radio broadcast -- you'll get the best of both worlds.

Frank Gifford was excellent back in the day. Far better than the joke that is Joe Buck or Fox NFL robots.
