It is a very difficult thing to give criticism to the city for snow removal.  I realize that it is a tough job, and they eventually do get it done.  The slowness of getting all of the side streets done was pretty darn bad this week.  Our street, on the west side, and the main cross street to it had to wait, I guess, about 3 days longer than Tremont (just 2 blocks away) which was plowed down to the black pavement.  But, for the benefit of your vehicle, stay off Tremont because it is a wash board of ruts and holes.

My problem is with the sealing of driveways when the plow passes them.  A young man I hired plowed out my driveway Tuesday, and we had to go to work and we went away after work.  The city's plow passed by our house and put a ridge of snow sealing the driveway in the morning, and Mrs. OB got stuck on her way to work.  Even though she has been told by doctors not to dig, she did.  She did not tell me, so I did not even know to help her.  Then, in the evening, the city sealed off the driveway again, with a 2-3 foot wall of snow and ice chunks.  Thus, we had a clear driveway that we could not get into again, that same night.  My young helper was not available, so we had to dig the  damn thing AGAIN, between seven and eight thirty that night.  People our age should NOT be doing this.

Solution?  LIFT THE BLADE when passing driveways.  Or, steer away from the driveways.  I have had people tell me this is possible to do.  Btw, TOWNSHIP snow removal is still better.  I have driven both places and the comparison is very real.  Sorry, I am definitely NOT the only person saying this.  For example, I talked to a person from Carrolton at work the other day.  Carrolton is usually a place that closes their schools at the drop of two flakes.  He had no problem coming to work, UNTIL he came to the streets of Massillon.  The city needs to improve its show removal.   steel chair steel chair

I had to shovel my drive three times yesterday to keep up and went through 100 lbs. of salt. Welcome to Ahio Lord OB.

I actually mound snow at the edges of my drive about 4 ft out into the street. So far, the trucks have been smart enough to not plow me in.

Not sure if it's fair to compare the townships to the city when it comes to snow removal. Many more streets filled with cars in the city.

I used to live at the edge of town.  If you stepped beyond my backyard, you were no longer in the city limits of Massillon.  We lived about a half mile from Lincoln Way, and our street must have been the last street they got around to every time it snowed.

I feel for you guys.  I feel your pain, your frustration, your bitter cold.

Next time you get a new vehicle, buy a full-size American 4-wheel drive pickup truck, and when winter snows roll in, you should be able to go anywhere you like.  If you still feel insecure about it, buy a blade so that you can clear the snow in front of you.  Meanwhile, people will be chasing you with money in hand, hoping to lure you into clearing their driveway for them.

It's the only way to go, guys.
